PROBLEM SOLVING

The process of finding solutions to new experiences and difficult issues.

In many courses problem-solving is known for case assignments and business decisions, giving recommendations, and providing a solution. In my experience, I have faced problem-solving in situations like; course deadlines, technical difficulties, and communication issues. Over the last 3 years, I've been able to solve problems in different types of situations that prepared me for my future while helping me think more creatively.

RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

The effective and efficient organization of resources when needed.

Being a student Cambrian has a lot of benefits when it comes to physical and virtual resources available for students. When it comes to certain business or marketing courses there are software and licenses required to access many resources these are only available on campus. Certain research and information require personal information and isn't easily accessible. Learning to estimate accurately with facts and always look at the situation in different angles to find creative solutions.

TIME MANAGEMENT

The process of planning and exercising conscious control of time spent on specific activities, especially to increase effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity.

Struggling with time is a very common challenge people face today whether it be not enough or simply balancing the time available. Many courses follow an outline depending on internal and external factors mainly following the overall semester deadlines for grading. Juggling 6-7 courses while having personal responsibilities and group work, where schedules don't add up while trying to learn but also understand the material can be hard but I developed the ability to manage my schedule based on the determination to succeed.

DIGITAL MARKETING WITH MEDIA

Problem Solving
Media Smarts Google Campaign

This was a group assignment that was meant to teach us how to create and analyze digital content while creating a campaign. We had the opportunity to work with a non-profit and provide them with a digital campaign. 

What was expected:

  • Analyze nonprofit overview

  • Communicate without non-profit

  • develop goals based on conversations

  • Analyze organizations Google analytics data of the website analytics to make decisions

  • Develop a marketing strategy 

  • Develop Google Ads Strategy

  • Learn, understand and use Google Analytics

  • Create a budgeting strategy for the campaign

  • Analyze weekly data from the campaign

  • Adjust goals based on data accumulated

This was a group assignment that had two sections a written and presentation section that allocated for are entire grade. This course taught students how to create a business plan from beginning to end.

What was expected:

  • Choose a unique innovative business idea that has the potential to be profitable and successful

  • Conduct market and situational analysis

  • Develop a business strategy and branding strategy

CAMPAIGN STRATEGIES

Time Management
Cambrian College School of Business Rebranding Strategy

This was a group assignment that was meant to reflect everything we had learned throughout the program. We had the amazing opportunity to rebrand the School of business via marketing efforts and working with wonderful Cambrian Staff.

What was expected:

  • Situational Analysis of the Cambrian School of Business

  • Create SMART objectives for each section of assignment

  • Determine accurate, profitable and attainable target market

  •  Develop creative strategy and communication strategy

  • Research marketing expenses and allocate $20,000 budget

  • Create advertising media strategy focusing on the 1 year timeline given.

  • Create content for campaign and theme based on the rebranding.

Skill Development : List

NON-PROFIT DIGITAL ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN

Problem Solving

When starting this course it was known that this was a new course for Cambrian but also a newly introduced program for Google. We as students understood that there were going to be problems and no specific answers but our efforts were being graded more than staying on schedule. 
The main problem we faced was in the finding guidelines for students mainly towards our abilities within software compared to the organization's abilities. Things like, we aren't granted access to all options like display ads, which by that point we were mid semesters and had to start over. 
By this point, we had to change the campaign, the themes, the type of advertisement, the budgeting, and the scheduling so we could actually run the campaign for 4 weeks before grades were due.

BUSINESS PLAN

This course heavily relied on research and the college does offer many resources but unfortunately, bank quotes, lease terms, and grants all involve either personal information or waiting periods.

Every decision made towards starting a business needs data to back it. This report contained so much data, really taking important sections, and organizing that information helped achieve efficiency when creating the final business plan with all the sections. Having this information that's accurate helped us with having realistic budgeting goals and actual proof of accuracy. There are a number of sections to a business plan and very detailed information required, knowing this we divided sections based on our strongest skills. Class time was limited to 1 class a week for 2 hours which for our groups meant limited time working as a team but really accomplish a lot in those times.

REBRANDING CAMPAIGN STRATEGY

Time Management

This course was in a condensed semester which intensified this experience compared to other courses. The pressure to find a placement with those deadlines. The conflict between team members' schedules. We really overcame each of those hurdles, handed everything on time, and really got the concept of what working as a marketing consultant could be like. I also found with this assignment I was stressing over the time I had left opposed to using it which made me reflect.

This is the biggest assignment and opportunity I had the chance of being a part of and presenting to really important members of Cambrian. This assignment really needed communication and understanding for it to be successful, at the time we weren't successful in making time for team meetings and listening to other's ideas. We felt rushed always but I have learned from that whole experience.


I want to explain how Cambrian really pushes for students to develop soft skills, unfortunately, there's no way to prove the development of these skills. We learn about professionalism, self-reflection, being punctual, leadership, and adaptability, to be better prepared for industry.

REFLECTIONS

My Strengths & Weaknesses

ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN

Problem Solving

The strengths

  • The non-profit we worked with, their understanding of the schedule issues, and they still run 1 of our advertisements.

  • Learning Google Ads and actually working with it.

  • Seeing the data and witnessing and being a part of the behind the scenes of a real company's marketing efforts.

The weaknesses:

  • Not learning the software before using it rather while using it.

  • The lessons I was being taught, I wasn't taking as seriously as the campaign we had to create because we weren't tested on theory in this course.

  • Our professor didn't have access to our team's Google Ads, she was pushed out of the loop and had no ability to see our progress.

BUSINESS PLAN

The strengths:

  • Luckily, I was responsible for the financial section which helped with my budgeting skills.

  • Marketing research done for this assignment directly influenced my grades in my Research course.

  • It as really fun seeing if an original concept could be a success.

The weaknesses:

  • There was so many business plan outline with different requirements, uncertainty about what was completely required was confusing.

  • Having 1 assignment for the entirety of the course can be straining.

  • There were too many guest speakers during our limited class time.

CAMPAIGN STRATEGY FOR CAMBRIAN SCHOOL OF BUSINESS

Time Management

The strengths:

  • I created my first ever advertisement, marketing content.

  • I created a deeper connection and understanding of my teammates.

  • I presented to a room of people I respect, look up to and have such influence on me being at Cambrian and continuing.

The weaknesses:

  • I was stressed out during the entirety of this assignment and really lost confidence in my abilities.

  • I was too intimidated to take the leadership role.

  • I believe as a team we could've accomplished much more if we had straightened out our communications challenges earlier.
